Katrina Gorry
Footballer
Katrina Gorry made her debut for both the Australian National Team and W-League club Brisbane Roar in 2012. She continued with Brisbane Roar through 2013 before taking her talents overseas in 2014, signing with the US National Women’s Soccer League’s FC Kansas City. That same year, she was honoured as the 2014 AFC Women’s Player of the Year and FFA Women’s Player of the Year, marking a breakout moment in her international career.
Katrina went on to represent Australia at the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cups, the 2016 Summer Olympics, the 2014 and 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cups, the 2020 Olympic Qualifiers, and most recently at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where she topped the tournament for the most tackles and became a standout midfield force for the Matildas.
From 2017 onward, Katrina remained a key figure for Brisbane Roar in the W-League, while also taking on international stints during the off-seasons — including time with Japan’s Vegalta Sendai, the NWSL’s Utah Royals FC, and Norway’s Avaldsnes IL in the Toppserien.
In August 2021, Katrina welcomed her first child, daughter Harper, and continued to juggle motherhood with her professional football career. After a season in Sweden with Vittsjö GIK Hässleholm, Katrina relocated to London with Harper and her partner, Swedish footballer Clara Markstedt, after signing with West Ham United.
In 2023, Katrina expanded her family again with the birth of her son Koby, embracing life as a mother of two while maintaining elite form as a professional athlete.
Katrina made her debut for West Ham United Women on January 14, 2024, in an FA Cup match and later went on to become Captain of the team — continuing to lead by example on and off the pitch.
She also announced the upcoming release of her debut book with Allen & Unwin, titled: “Katrina Gorry: A Matilda’s Hero Story of Football, Motherhood, and Breaking Down Barriers!” — a powerful and personal story of resilience, representation, and rewriting the rules in women’s sport.
